Health benefits of Apples
Apples eaten with the skins are packed with rich phyto-nutrients. The antioxidants in apple have much health promoting and disease prevention properties; thus truly justifying the adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Apples also contain many vitamins (C, B-Complex, Beta-Carotene) and minerals (potassium, phosphorus, and calcium).
Pick apples fresh, bright, and firm textured.
Wash apples thoroughly in the cold running water. Trim off top end using a paring knife and cut the fruit into two equal halves. Take out tiny, centrally placed, bitter seeds. Slice the fruit into desirable cubes or slices.
Handle your apples very carefully to avoid bruising. Apples can be kept at room temperature but will ripen much faster. To keep fresher for longer store inside a refrigerator and they will last for weeks.
To freeze: peel, core and slice apples. You can add 1 tablespoon lemon juice to keep them fresher and from turning brown. Pack in freezer bags or containers.
Enjoy fresh, non-filtered Apple Cider
Unpasteurized, Non-filtered Apple Cider made on the Ellsworth premises can be found in our farm store.
NO additives, preservatives, or sugar is added. It is packed with antioxidants because it contains the sediments and pulp from the apple skins. Cider differs from apple juice that you buy in the store, It is filtered to remove the sediments and pasteurized to improve shelf life. Apple cider is delicious served hot or cold.
We also have raw apple cider vinegar with "the mother" at our farm store.
