Pick your own Pears!
Pick Your Own Pears
Pears are one of the oldest beloved fruits similar to apples just a little softer in texture. Just like apples, you can use pears for eating, cooking, making sauce, baking, or in salads.
Available mid October through November. Fresh picked pears are also available in our farm store Saturday and Sunday, and pre-picked at our farm stand Monday through Friday.
Health benefits of Pears
Pears are low in calories and saturated fat. They are also a good source of dietary fiber and vitamins (A, C,) and minerals (copper, iron, potassium, manganese and magnesium).
Pick pears that are NOT completely ripe, greenish - brown, and firm textured. Make sure you let them sit out at room temperature to ripen. Pears do not ripen well on trees. Pears ripen from the inside out. They are ripe when the tops near the stems are softer. If they are softer around the middle, they are too ripe.
Wash pears in cold running water.
Just like apples, handle pears carefully to avoid bruising. Leave them out at room temperature until ripe or store in the refrigerator to keep longer.
We do not recommend freezing pears.
